My Goal this Week is to Focus on Taste, and how this Sense stimulates your Female (Yin) Energy; and Masculine (Yang) Energy.

There’s also a 5th taste, which is under debate. It’s known as Umami, which is Japanese for Savory. Umami is similar to the taste of broth, and it’s believed to elicit an emotional response.
Scientists estimate we’re born with about 10,000 taste buds, which dot our tongue, throat and the roof of the mouth. But in order to taste something, our sense of smell is also called upon.
“Our sensation of taste starts with the smells or odors around us that stimulate nerves in a small area located high in the nose,” Kristen Hayes, RN, explains to VeryWell Health magazine. “The sweet, sour, or other smells stimulate the brain and affect the actual flavor of the foods we eat. Our sensation of taste continues as the foods we eat mix with saliva to activate.”
Because my Five Essences for Inner Harmony seeks to Connect Your Mind with Your Heart, Your Yin with Your Yang, here’s a short list of foods that support Male and Female Energy.
Foods and Herbs that Supplement Yang (Masculine Energy):
Grains: quinoa, buckwheat
Vegetables: radishes, parsnips, mustard greens, sweet potatoes, kale
Fruits: cherries, dates
Nuts: walnuts, pine nuts, sunflower seeds
Meats: lamb, lamb kidney, mutton
Herbs: ginger, cinnamon, fennel, star anise
Foods that Supplement Yin (Female Energy)
Grains: millet, barley, amaranth
Vegetables: beets, string beans, kidney beans, mung beans
Fruits: persimmons, grapes, blackberries, raspberries, bananas, watermelon
Dairy: goat’s milk, yogurt, eggs
Seafood: clams, abalone, oysters
Meats: duck, organic beef, organic pork
